Pune, 14th December 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will set up one polling station for every 900 voters for the upcoming municipal elections scheduled in January, taking the total number of polling stations in the city to 3,946. The civic administration has begun identifying suitable locations across Pune, including schools, government and semi-government buildings, society halls, and, if required, temporary tin-shed structures.

With preparations gaining momentum, the municipal administration is simultaneously addressing objections received on the draft voter lists and working to identify duplicate entries. Officials said both exercises are being carried out on a priority basis, as the final voter list will determine the exact number of polling stations and voter allocation at each centre.

According to the PMC election branch, a total of 35,51,469 voters registered up to July 1, 2025, will be eligible to vote in the civic polls. This includes voters from eight assembly constituencies fully within the city limits—Kasba Peth, Shivajinagar, Kothrud, Wadgaon Sheri, Pune Cantonment, Hadapsar, Parvati and Khadakwasla—as well as voters from Purandar, Shirur and Bhor Velha constituencies whose areas fall under the PMC jurisdiction.

The Election Commission has mandated a maximum of 900 voters per polling station. Based on this norm, the city requires close to 4,000 polling stations. Site inspections are currently being conducted across the PMC’s 15 regional offices to finalise polling locations, officials said. The process is being closely monitored by the election branch and is expected to be completed within the next two days.

Polling stations may also be set up in tin sheds where permanent infrastructure is unavailable. Civic officials said locations are being chosen to ensure polling booths are close to voters’ residences and accessible to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

“For the municipal elections, there will be one polling station for every 900 voters. Site inspections are being conducted through the assistant commissioners of the 15 regional offices to finalise locations. A detailed report will be received in the next two days,” said Arvind Mali, Deputy Commissioner, Pune Municipal Corporation.
