PMC Elections: Political Clash Erupts Between BJP and NCP in Shivajinagar During Pune Civic Polls
Shivajinagar, 15th January 2026: Polling day for the Pune Municipal Corporation elections witnessed heightened tensions in Shivajinagar–Model Colony, where a political dispute broke out between BJP and NCP candidates in Ward No. 12, causing unease among voters. Videos of the confrontation circulated widely on social media, intensifying the controversy.
BJP candidate Dr. Nivedita Ekbote accused supporters of NCP candidate and former corporator Deepak alias Balasaheb Bodke of intimidating voters at the Modern High School polling centre. In a video released online, Dr. Ekbote claimed that NCP workers targeted women voters and attempted to intimidate her personally, urging authorities to take immediate action against the alleged misconduct.
Countering the allegations, Chiranjiv Tushar Bodke, a relative of the NCP candidate, shared a video claiming that Dr. Ekbote, along with some teachers, were attempting to influence voters within 100 metres of the polling station—a violation of electoral norms. According to Bodke’s camp, teachers involved in campaigning fled the site when confronted, and the police were informed, after which the school gates were closed to prevent further incidents.
Observers noted that the exchange of videos during polling hours contributed to a tense atmosphere in Shivajinagar, raising concerns about voter safety and the transparency of the electoral process.
