Pune, 10th March 2026: As part of the “Swachh Pune Sankalp 2026” initiative, the Solid Waste Management Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) celebrated International Women’s Day today with a special program titled “Punyache Pragati Parva – Narishakticha Gaurav” (Pune’s Progress Era – Honoring Women Power).

The event, held at the Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, was dedicated to acknowledging the vital contribution of women in maintaining the city’s daily public cleanliness. The ceremony honored the tireless efforts of women sanitation workers, supervisors, and administrative officers who serve as the backbone of the city’s hygiene infrastructure.

Members of the Municipal Corporation, including Ranjanatai Tilekar, Archanatai Jagtap, and Pujatai Kadam, along with various assistant commissioners and health officials, were also present.

A significant highlight of the event was the launch of the Red Dot Campaign, a joint initiative by the PMC, Badlav Foundation, SWaCH Pune Seva Sahakari Sanstha, and RedDot. This campaign specifically focuses on the health, safety, and dignity of sanitation workers. Furthermore, the Badlav Foundation provided specialized guidance on menstrual hygiene and women’s health.

The program commenced with cultural performances featuring music and dance, followed by the felicitation of the guests. In a moving segment, women sanitation workers shared their personal experiences, discussing the challenges they face daily and the level of cooperation they require from citizens to keep Pune clean.

To showcase progress, short films highlighting success stories from the Solid Waste Management and Social Development departments were unveiled. Additionally, representative women from various sectors—including self-help groups, entrepreneurs, waste pickers, security guards, nurses, Anganwadi workers, and PMPML conductors—were formally honored for their contributions.

The Social Development Department provided detailed information regarding various welfare schemes available for women. The event concluded with a collective cleanliness oath led by the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner, reaffirming the city’s commitment to a cleaner and more inclusive Pune.
