Pune, April 24, 2021: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) currently needs ten tons of extra oxygen. On the other hand, the number of patients in need of oxygen has crossed six thousand. The number is increasing day by day and after the availability of oxygen, the 300 oxygen beds prepared by the corporation can be activated, said Rubal Agarwal, Additional Commissioner of the PMC.

While the number of Covid patients in the city is increasing day by day, the number of critical patients is also increasing. Therefore, the corporation emphasized increasing the oxygen bed. As a part of this, 300 oxygen beds have been planned at ESI Hospital at Bibwewadi, Jumbo Hospital, Ganesh Kala Krida Kendra, Pathare Stadium at Kharadi.

However, due to the shortage of oxygen in the last few days, many hospitals are not taking new patients even though oxygen beds are available. Relatives of patients admitted to some hospitals are asking to see beds in other hospitals. On the other hand, municipal hospitals are also suffering from oxygen shortage.

The ESI Hospital at Bibwewadi has 100 oxygen beds. However, due to lack of oxygen, there are only 50 beds operational. There were plans to increase the number of oxygen beds at Jumbo Hospital in Shivajinagar by 100. But, it is too long. There are 100 oxygen beds in the hall at Ganesh Kala Krida Kendra. It is also planned to provide 50 oxygen beds in Pathare Stadium. All these places will need a total of 10 tons of oxygen. Therefore, these 300 oxygen beds will be operational only if 10 tons of oxygen is available.
