Pune, 24th April 2021: As the country struggles against the deadliest coronavirus, doctors, nurses, and front-line workers are making efforts to help people in dire need. However, their effort to save lives is not being given proper dues, and face stigma over Covid infection and are denied entry to the flat.

In a shocking incident, that took place on Thursday, at the SKD Pearl Society on Katraj-Kondhwa Road. A group of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers were denied entry to flats; the landlord asked the frontline staff to vacate the flat as the residents of the complex feared that these frontline workers would carry the Covid infection to their homes, reported Pune Mirror newspaper.

The medical staff including a doctor and 4 nurses were serving at the Covid Care Center (CCC) in Gokulnagar. The team had traveled from Kolhapur to serve the Covid-19 patients in Pune by the city-based forum Metro Medical Foundation, which has a capacity of 70 beds and 25 oxygen beds.

Initially, the staff coming from outside the Pune city were given accommodation at the CCC itself, however, the staff felt after working for almost 16 hours they were not getting a good sleep due to the rush at the CCC facility, and thus they decided to move to a rented house. And on Wednesday the medical team shifted to a two-BHK flat at SKD Pearl, near their centre. The team deposited Rs 30,000 on the same day.

However, the next day on Thursday, the landlord asked the team to vacate the residence because other residents of the complex were worried that they would carry the Covid infection to their homes. After facing the stigma over Covid infection, the medical team left the place and shifted back to the CCC facility again.
