Pune’s public Ganesh festival is renowned across the globe. Since the number of public boards is also large, a joint meeting is organized by the Municipal Corporation every year. This year’s meeting has gained importance as the public Ganeshotsav is being celebrated after two years. A preliminary meeting was also held on July 12 under the chairmanship of the Municipal Commissioner. According to the discussion, this joint meeting was decided to be held on August 8.

Public Ganeshotsav mandals in the city are required to acquire licenses every year for various activities. Many factors, including location, tend to remain constant for a few years. Therefore, it was demanded that the Jai Ganesh Vyaspeeth of the Mandals should be given licenses for a period of five years instead of having to acquire them every year.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who came to Pune on Tuesday, also met the workers of the Ganeshotsav mandals. After this demand was reiterated, Shinde instructed the administration to give a five-year license to the mandals. Along with this, it was also approved to continue the use of loudspeakers till midnight during the last five days of the festival. The upcoming meeting will be held to further discuss these points.

Each year, the ‘Visarjan’ procession begins by offering wreaths to Lokmanya Tilak’s statue at Mandai. This year, however, the metro project has been undertaken in the region. There will also be a discussion about the metro bridge at Khandujibaba Chowk, according to which, the height of immersion chariots, arches, and other components will be discussed in this meeting.
