PMC Repairs Major Road Stretch Near Gemini Amenity Plot In NIBM Annexe

Mohammadwadi, 11th September 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started repairing a major road stretch near the Gemini amenity plot in NIBM Annexe, Mohammadwadi, along with repairs to the drainage network and installation of new drainage caps. The work has brought relief to residents who had been raising concerns over the deteriorating road, leaking drainage lines and damaged chambers in the area.

Civic activist Jaymala Dhankikar said the road repair followed persistent efforts by residents and repeated representations to the civic administration.

“This is an important road used by thousands of residents every day, and its poor condition had become a serious concern. The problem was not restricted to potholes. Leaking drainage lines and damaged chambers were continuously affecting the road. We are glad that the PMC has finally started addressing the issue in a coordinated manner,” she said.

Dhankikar stressed that repairing the drainage infrastructure along with the road was necessary to prevent the newly repaired stretch from deteriorating again.

“We have seen roads being repaired only to be damaged again because drainage water continues to leak onto the road. The PMC must ensure that the drainage lines are properly repaired, the chambers are secured and the new caps are strong enough to withstand regular traffic. Otherwise, public money will continue to be spent on repeated road repairs,” she said.

She also urged the civic administration to inspect adjoining stretches in NIBM Annexe and Mohammadwadi, stating that drainage-related problems were not limited to a single location.

“The drainage problem is not confined to one location. Residents have repeatedly faced leakage, overflow and waterlogging, particularly during the monsoon. The civic body needs to inspect the entire network and identify vulnerable points before they become major problems. We appreciate the present work, but the objective should be a permanent solution and not temporary patchwork,” Dhankikar said.

Residents have also welcomed the ongoing work. Hussain Shaikh said the repairs would provide relief to motorists and pedestrians using the stretch.

“The road carries considerable traffic and needed urgent attention. The drainage repairs are equally important,” he said.

Anzar Rade said regular maintenance of the drainage infrastructure was necessary to prevent repeated damage to the road.

“Repeated leakage damages the road and creates inconvenience for residents. The drainage system needs regular inspection,” he said.

Danish Khan welcomed the installation of new drainage caps, pointing out that damaged or missing covers could pose a safety risk.

“Damaged or missing covers are a safety risk, especially for two-wheeler riders. The new caps will make the stretch safer,” he said.

Daljeet Goraya said the PMC should ensure that road and drainage works were completed in coordination to avoid repeated excavation.

“Road and drainage works should be coordinated so that the same stretch does not have to be dug up again,” he said.

Srikant Iyer said residents expected the civic body to maintain the road after completion of the repairs.

“The work is welcome, but regular maintenance will be important to ensure that the improvement lasts,” he said.

Residents said drainage leakage and overflow have been recurring issues in parts of the NIBM Annexe-Mohammadwadi area, affecting road conditions and creating unhygienic surroundings. With the PMC now undertaking both road and drainage-related work, residents hope the civic body will address the underlying infrastructure problems and provide a long-term solution rather than temporary repairs.
