PMC To Implement ‘Abhay’ Scheme To Convert Unauthorised Water Connection Into Authorised Connection

Pune, 3rd July 2021: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in its standing committee meeting decided to implement the ‘Abhay’ scheme in the city. The scheme will provide relief to those who have an unauthorised water supply connection with them. With this scheme, citizens can convert the connection into an authorised connection by paying a three per cent extra tariff charged by PMC.

A proposal of the water supply department for implementation of the Abhay scheme was presented in the meeting suddenly and it was accepted. The PMC is working on a 24 by 7 water supply scheme. As of now, 42,000 meters have been issued. But there are some difficulties due to the unauthorised connections. The PMC also trying to increase its revenue. Considering this scheme might be useful the Abhay scheme will be implemented in the city.  However, the PMC does not have any data regarding the unauthorized water supply connection in the city.

After taking an unauthorised water supply connection citizens do not apply to make the connection authorised due to fear of action. With this scheme, they can come forward. Also, it will help us to get the data of unauthorised connections in the city, Said Hemant Rasne, standing committee chairman.

To get the benefit of this scheme, the citizens need to apply to the water supply department in their area. Along with the application they have to attach documents like electricity bill, Adhar card, ownership proof etc. The scheme applies to all types of residences including shawls, unauthorised Zopadpattis, Gavthan area etc.
