Pune, 15th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) ‘Road Mitra’ mobile application, launched to enable citizens to report potholes directly to the civic body, has remained non-functional for the past four months, leaving residents without a dedicated platform to register complaints despite worsening road conditions during the monsoon.

The issue has come to light even as Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale recently urged citizens to use the app to report potholes, assuring them that complaints would be resolved within 72 hours and that action would be taken against officials if the deadline was not met. However, the app itself has remained inaccessible since March 11, 2026.

The PMC Road Mitra app was launched on August 12, 2025, by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram. It was designed to allow citizens to upload photographs or videos of potholes, which would then be automatically forwarded to the road department. Officials were required to repair the potholes within 72 hours and upload “before” and “after” photographs before closing the complaint.

However, the service has remained unavailable for the past four months. While civic officials had earlier attributed the disruption to technical issues and assured that the app would be restored soon, it has yet to become operational.

According to sources, the outage was not caused by a technical failure but because the civic body allegedly failed to renew the SMS messaging service required for OTP verification, complaint registration, and status updates. As a result, new users are unable to register on the app because OTPs are not being generated, while several existing users have also reported that the service is not functioning.

Although the app remains available on the Google Play Store, it is effectively unusable, raising concerns over the civic body’s digital grievance redressal mechanism.

With potholes continuing to plague several roads across the city during the monsoon, residents have questioned why the PMC has not announced an alternative platform for lodging complaints.

Responding to the issue, Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Divte said technical issues had affected the service and that the concerned team was working to restore it. He expressed hope that the app would be operational by late Tuesday evening.
