Lohgaon, 17th February 2025: Despite directives from the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses have not been granted access to the new terminal of Pune Airport. The delay, reportedly due to the Aeromall administration, has raised concerns among passengers and officials alike.

Currently, PMPML operates a bus service between Ramwadi and Pune Airport. However, since buses are not permitted inside the terminal premises, they are forced to halt outside near Aeromall. This arrangement causes inconvenience to passengers, who often remain unaware of the bus service and end up booking cabs at significantly higher fares. While a cab ride costs between ₹200 and ₹300, the same journey via PMPML and Metro would only cost around ₹50 to ₹60.

Passengers had earlier raised the issue with Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol, who instructed the Airport Administration to provide designated space for PMPML buses within the terminal. However, even after a month, no action has been taken, leading to speculation that the Airport Administration is disregarding the minister’s directive.

The absence of a designated bus stop within the terminal is negatively impacting PMPML’s ridership. Passengers stepping out of the airport tend to use the Aeromall escalator and either book cabs, as the PMPML buses remain out of sight. The PMPML had launched a feeder service, deploying AC buses to cater to air travelers, but poor visibility of the service has led to a low response from passengers.

If space is allocated for PMPML buses at the terminal, it would provide a cost-effective and convenient travel option for passengers. The ongoing delay in granting access has led to rising concerns about whose interests are being prioritized, as private cab services continue to benefit from the lack of affordable public transport options at the airport.
