Pune, October 8, 2020: Special Air-conditioned (AC) bus services from the airport will be launched by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) from October 20.

As many as 43 e-buses will be playing on five different routes from Pune airport to Kothrud, Hadapsar, Hinjawadi, Swargate and Nigdi. The frequency of all these e-buses would be 20 minutes. “There will be seven buses to Kothrud, five to Hadapsar, 16 to Hinjewadi, seven to Swargate and eight to Nigdi”, informed PMPML CMD Dr Rajendra Jagtap.

Considering the increasing demands of travellers, this decision has been made. “If we get a good response, we will further increase the number of buses from the airport”, said Jagtap.

In an attempt to make the service as cost-effective as possible, it has been decided by PMPML to keep the rates fixed. “The rates will be from Rs 50 to Rs 150 depending on the distance. This will also provide income to the PMPML”, explained Jagtap.

The special service to Lohegaon Airport was launched by the PMPML administration six years ago. However, due to traffic congestion, and other reasons, the service was not getting the expected response from the passengers. Recently, there was a demand for the resumption of this service. Meetings were also held with the PMPML administration and Airport Authority India (AAI) in this regard. AAI also expressed positive support for the launch of the service. Therefore, this service will be started on October 20.

Meanwhile, the PMPML has requested the estate and management department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to provide space for parking of the buses. “If space is available, maintenance and repair of vehicles will also be possible”, he said.

“A PMPML official will be appointed at the airport to provide information on the bus service. We have also planned to launch a separate application for these AC buses”, added Jagtap.
