Pune, 4th October 2021: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) plans to provide e-cab services to passengers for a certain distance in the Pune city and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

For this, in the first phase, 100 to 200 cars can enter the PMPML fleet. The service will be cheaper than any company’s cabs and rickshaws, the PMPML has claimed.

This is the first attempt to serve passengers through e-cabs through public sector transport services. These cabs will be available to passengers for access to airports, state transport (ST) bus stands, railway stations as well as markets.

The service will also be useful for the disabled and senior citizens, the PMPML said. Pune ‘Darshan’ or Pimpri Chinchwad ‘Darshan’ tour services can also be made available to the passengers through the e-cabs.

A plan in this regard has been prepared and will be tabled at the PMPML Board of Directors meeting. The purpose of the e-cab service is to provide public transport services to passengers from home to work. It will reduce the number of private vehicles and reduce travel time for passengers, officials said.

Advantages of PMPML e-cab:

A. These cabs will be available from Shivajinagar, Deccan, Swargate, Pulgate, Pune Railway Station and markets in Peth and central parts of the city.
B. Car charging facilities will be available at nine depots of PMPML.
C. These cars will cover a distance of at least 150 km per day.
D. Service in the form of pink cabs for women.
E. Fare for this cab will be Rs 10 per km.
F. Cab will be available through Tata’s Nexon and Mahindra e-Verito models.
G. Cabs currently charge Rs 280 to Rs 290 for a distance of 13 km. However, PMPML’s e-cab will charge Rs 130 for this distance.
