Police Officer Suspended for Taking Bribes from Illegal Hookah Parlor in Pune

Pune, 1st February 2025; A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) in Pune has been suspended for allegedly accepting monthly bribes from an illegal hookah parlour, highlighting ongoing concerns about corruption within the city’s law enforcement.
The suspended PSI, identified as Vishal Pawar, was reportedly taking 20,000 rupees per month from a hookah parlour operating illegally in the Wanowrie area of Pune. The misconduct came to light during a police raid on the establishment.
Police received information about an illegal hookah parlour operating in a hotel in Wanowrie. During the raid, an examination of the hotel owner’s mobile phone revealed regular communication with PSI Pawar. Further investigation uncovered that Pawar was receiving monthly payments of 20,000 rupees to allow the illegal operation to continue.
