Camp, 26 February 2021: A lawyer has filed a private complaint with the Pune Cantonment Court seeking direction to Wanowrie police station to register a case in connection with the death of Pooja Chavan. Pooja was found dead on February 7 but no case has been registered by the Pune city police, the petition stated.

As the police did not file a case even after almost three weeks of the incident, a petition has now been filed in the Pune Cantonment court.

Advocate Bhakti Rajendra Pandhre (24) from Legal Justice Society filed the complaint through lawyer Vijay Thombre about direction under the 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) as the police have refused to act on her complaint.

“There has been a lot of discussion in the media. Pooja Chavan died under suspicious circumstances. Many audio clips of Pooja are also going viral, featuring the names of many famous people. However, it is not being thoroughly investigated and the accused can destroy the evidence of death at any time,” the petition states.

The main demand in the petition is to register an FIR and investigate allegations against the accused people. The court will hold a hearing regarding the matter on March 5 now.

While no case has been registered in the Pooja Chavan case yet, the opposition has started capitalizing on the issue. It is also claimed that the Pune police are not investigating it properly.

Yesterday, BJP leader Chitra Wagh also held a public press conference and accused the Pune police of not investigating in the right direction.

Pooja’s family threatens suicide

Pooja’s family is upset over the ongoing ‘media trial’ on Pooja Chavan’s suicide. “Stop the slander of Pooja, otherwise we will have to commit suicide,” said Pooja’s father. He also alleged that “new discussions are being held every day by simply adding photos when there is no evidence”.
