Poona College of Arts Sciences and Commerce Organizes National Conference on Emerging Trends in Humanities and Social Sciences
Pune, 21st March 2023: The Faculty of Arts, Poona College of Arts, Science, and Commerce organized a one-day National Conference titled “Emerging Trends In Humanities Languages and Social Sciences – Scope and Dynamism” in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) recently, indicating the relevance of the discipline in the contemporary world. The conference was conducted in a hybrid mode, and more than 140 participants from all over the country had registered.
Prof. Devidas Waydande, Member Management Council, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), was the Chief Guest, while Dr. Pawar Dhondiram Bhoju, Member Senate Council SPPU, was the distinguished guest. Prof. Waydande emphasized the importance of conducting such conferences, and Dr. Amir Ali, Assistant Professor from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), delivered the Keynote address. Eminent columnist and critic Shamim Tariq from Mumbai was the Guest of Honour.
Additionally, Prof. Aftab Anwar Shaikh, Principal, delivered the Presidential Address, highlighting the academic exchanges that take place in such seminars and conferences. Academicians, research scholars, and students from all over India, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Tripura, West Bengal, Assam, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir, had registered for and presented both offline and online.
Furthermore, Prof. Parvez Nazir, from the Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), joined the conference online as Chief Guest, while Syed Areesh Ahmad, Associate Professor of Political Science from Ramjas College, Delhi University, addressed the gathering online as Guest of Honour.
While Moinuddin Khan gave the Welcome Speech. Dr. Zoheb Hasan, Head, History department and organizing secretary outlined the theme of the Conference, emphasizing on the relevance of the discipline of Humanities.
Prof. Jagdish C Sonawane, from Arts Science & Commerce College, Nevasa, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour, and Zameer Salim Sayyed from the Department of English and Dr. Gulnawaz Usmani from the Department of Economics proposed the Vote of Thanks.
