Poona College Organizes Grand “Book Exhibition and Free Distribution of Books” to Commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Camp, November 12, 2023: Poona College celebrated the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on October 15, designated as Reading Inspiration Day, by hosting a noteworthy “Book Exhibition Cum Free Distribution of Books” from October 16 to 21, 2023, at the Knowledge Resource Centre of the college. The Government of Maharashtra had issued directives to all institutions and colleges to observe October 15 as Reading Inspiration Day. Due to the overwhelming response from staff and students, the week-long exhibition was extended until October 28, 2023.
College Principal Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of Vice-Principal/IQAC Coordinator Dr. Iqbal Shaikh, college staff, and students. In his inaugural video message, Dr. Shaikh emphasized that reading acts as nourishment for the soul. He urged staff and students to cultivate and enhance their reading habits by spending a little time daily in the college library, which houses a diverse collection of books on various subjects. This, he stated, would foster creativity, enhance imaginative power, and simultaneously expand knowledge.
Dr. Muhammad Zuber, the director of the Knowledge Resource Centre, informed readers about the rich variety of books available in the college, ranging from encyclopedias and dictionaries to world history, space and technology, biographies, fiction, and more. He also highlighted the library’s regular events aimed at creating awareness and familiarity with its exclusive collections.
The exhibition showcased a wide array of books in an organized manner. Enthusiastic readers were observed perusing the diverse selection and taking advantage of the books available for free distribution. The event, attended by more than 300 readers, proved highly successful in promoting reading habits and raising awareness about the library’s exclusive collections.
