Pune, 29th November 2024: The Pune police informed a sessions court on Thursday that their investigation into deleted CCTV footage from the Vadgaonsheri bungalow of the 17-year-old involved in the fatal Porsche Taycan accident is ongoing. This was cited as one of the reasons to oppose anticipatory bail pleas filed by the teenager’s mother, grandfather, and a former pub director in a related case under the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act.

The anticipatory bail pleas are connected to a second case filed by the Yerawada police. Additional Sessions Judge Kavita Shribate has deferred the final hearing of the pleas to December 3. Earlier, the court had granted interim anticipatory bail to the three individuals in separate orders on November 8 and 12, with the final decision pending.

The incident occurred on May 19, when the 17-year-old, driving a high-end Porsche Taycan, hit a bike from behind in Kalyaninagar, killing two young software engineers. The teenager, accompanied by two minors and the family driver, was returning to his Wadgaonsheri residence after attending parties at pubs in Mundhwa.

The primary case, currently under investigation by the Juvenile Justice Board, involves allegations of conspiracy and tampering with the blood sample reports of the minors in the car at the time of the crash. The teen’s parents and several co-accused remain in judicial custody in Yerawada Central Prison.

In a related second case, the teen’s mother, grandfather, and others are accused of negligence for allowing the teenager to drive without a valid licence and for enabling minors to access pubs and consume alcohol. Charges have been framed under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Sections 3, 5, and 199-A, and the Juvenile Justice Act, specifically Sections 75 and 77.

The teenager’s father and five representatives of the Mundhwa pubs involved have already been granted bail in this second case. However, police later added the mother and grandfather as co-accused, citing their roles as directors of the company that owned the Porsche.

In their submission, the police stated they are examining the entry and exit logs of the bungalow to determine whether the teenager had driven the car on previous occasions. The police also argued that releasing the accused on bail could lead to witness tampering.

The investigation into both cases continues, with the court set to hear further arguments in December.
