Pune, 25th May 2023: Pune Municipal Corporation’s Deputy Commissioner of the Encroachment Department, Madhav Jagtap, finds himself embroiled in controversy following an incident where he kicked a food stall during an encroachment action on FC Road.
As political parties and organizations demand action against Jagtap, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has taken measures to curtail his powers. The responsibility of the encroachment department will now be divided among two deputy commissioners, while Jagtap’s powers have been restricted.
For several years, the encroachment department of the municipal corporation has been under the sole purview of Jagtap. However, a video capturing Jagtap kicking a stall during an encroachment operation recently went viral, sparking demands for action against him. In response, a show cause notice has been issued to Jagtap. Meanwhile, the municipal commissioner has initiated administrative changes to address the situation.
Raju Nandkar, a newly appointed officer, has joined the Municipal Corporation as Deputy Commissioner. He has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the encroachment department in Zones one and two. Madhav Jagtap, on the other hand, will oversee circles three, four, and five. These orders have been issued by Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar.
In addition to these changes, Jagtap will continue to handle the sky signs and security departments. Nandkar, along with the encroachment department, has been assigned the Motor Vehicle Department, Primary and Secondary Education, and Training Academy.
Furthermore, Mahesh Doifode, who previously held the responsibility of the motor vehicle department, will now oversee the Environment, Market, BOT Cell, and Technical Department. Additionally, Mahesh Patil, who was previously responsible for vigilance and disaster management, has been assigned the property management department.
