Prakash Hasbe Death: FIR Registered Against Unidentified PMPML Bus Driver

Lohegaon, 28 March 2021: Pune city police have registered a case against an unidentified driver of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) for causing the death of Pune Cantonment Board’s Fire Brigade Chief Prakash Hasbe.

The incident had occurred around 6.15 am on Saturday near the Sanjay Park bus stop on Old Airport road. Hasbe (58), a resident of Gurudwara Colony in Lohegaon was returning home after supervising an operation to douse a fire at the Fashion Street in Camp when the bus hit his two-wheeler. He later succumbed to injuries.

Hasbe had joined the Fire Brigade after retirement from the Indian Air Force (IAF). He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. 

Based on a complaint from policeman Pradip Raut, Vimantal police station registered an FIR against the unidentified driver for offences under section 279 (rash driving), 304a (causing death due to negligence), 427 (property damage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 184 (driving dangerously) and other relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

According to police, the bus hit Hasbe’s bike from the driver’s side. Hasbe sustained grievous injuries in the accident leading to his death. Assistant Police Inspector Milind Pathak is further investigating the case. 

A massive fire had erupted at Fashion Street around 11 PM on Friday, after which the cantonment and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) fire brigade teams were rushed to the spot. The fire was doused by 2 am Saturday and cooling went on till morning. Hasbe told his colleagues that he will return in two hours and left for his home when the accident took place. According to officials, Fashion Street was set up at its present location in 2000 when MG Road street vendors were rehabilitated. Initially, only 448 stalls were there. However, traders say the total number of stalls has gone up to 1500-2000, which sold garments, sun glasses, shoes, and other accessories.
