Prashant Jagtap Resigns as Pune NCP (Sharad Pawar Faction) City President Amid Merger Row
Pune, 23rd December 2025: Prashant Jagtap has resigned as Pune city president of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction), submitting his resignation to party MP Supriya Sule on Monday, senior party sources said. The development has triggered political speculation ahead of the Pune Municipal Corporation elections.
According to sources, Jagtap’s clear opposition to any move to reunite the two rival NCP factions is believed to have led to his exit. While there is no official clarity on his next political move, speculation is rife that he may join the Congress.
The resignation comes amid efforts to bring the two NCP factions together for the upcoming civic polls in Pune. A committee has been formed to explore the possibility of an alliance. From the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, the committee includes former MP Vandana Chavan, party spokesperson Ankush Kakade, and former standing committee chairman Vishal Tambe. Notably, Jagtap was excluded from this panel.
Following his exclusion, Jagtap held a meeting with his supporters and party workers, during which the decision to resign was taken. Subsequently, he formally submitted his resignation to Supriya Sule, party insiders confirmed.
The political implications of Jagtap’s resignation are being closely watched, especially in the context of opposition unity and alliance calculations ahead of the PMC elections 2026.
