Pune, 26th November 2021: The pre-season arrival of grapes has started in the fruit market at Market Yard. Grapes are arriving in the market from Baramati, Indapur and Phaltan areas.

At present, about two tons of pre-season grapes are arriving daily in the fruit market at Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard. In the wholesale market, five kg grapes of Sonaka, Taas A Ganesh varieties are priced at Rs 500 to 600 and light graded grapes are priced between Rs 300 to Rs 500 for 10 kgs.

“Last year the weather had affected grape production. This year, the quality of pre-season grapes in the market is good. Fruit traders in Pune city, suburbs and Pimpri area bought pre-season grapes,” said Arvind More, a grape trader in the fruit market.

Lonavla, Mahabaleshwar area is currently crowded with tourists. Grapes are in demand from vendors in the area. The grape season begins in December. The season lasts until April. In the retail market, grapes are priced at Rs 70 to 150 per Kg.

“Coronavirus pandemic affected grape sales last year. This year demand for grapes will increase from traders in Kerala, Gujarat and Karnataka. This will benefit the farmers. Foreign and state merchants are now buying directly from the vineyards,” said Arvind More, Grape Merchant, Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard.
