Prof Dr Vilas Adhav appointed as Director of Pune University’s Lifelong Learning and Extension Department

Pune, 16th June 2022: Professor Dr Vilas Adhav, Head, Economics Department, Savitribai Phule Pune University, has been appointed as the Director of Lifelong Learning and Extension Department. Prof Dr Vilas Adhav took over the charge of Directorship on 1st June 2022.

Prof Adhav began his career as an Economics lecturer at Arts, Commerce, and Science College, Nasrapur, Dst. Pune in 1992. He started working at the Adult, Continuous Learning and Extension Department as Project Officer, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Reader. Presently, he is working as Professor and Director of Lifelong Learning and Extension Department and handling the additional charge of Head, Economics Department as well. Prof Adhav has participated in numerous national and international seminars and workshops. 

He has published more than 300 articles about Phule, Shahu, Ambedkar, the progressive movement and the upliftment of the weaker sections of society in various newspapers, magazines and periodicals. Between 1999 and 2022, he has published around 23 books in Marathi and English. Additionally, Prof Adhav has an experience of 30 long years in the field of teaching research and extension.

Prof Adhav had been specially invited by the Mahachulang Cornraja International University officials for the three-day programme organized by the United Nation and the Royal Thai Government on the occasion of 12th United Nations Day. Prof Adhav was the BOS member for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Adult, Continuous Learning and Extension Department. He is a member of the RR committee of the Lifelong Learning and Extension Department, Savitribai Phule Pune University as well as a member of the Economics BOS for institutes such as Spicer International University and SP College, Pune. Prof Adhav is also a recognised researcher and guide in the areas of adult learning, economics and commerce.

Pune Municipal Corporation has honoured Prof Dr Vilas Adhav by conferring upon him the Best Education Expert Award, 2006. He has also received many national and international awards. Recently, his research book titled “Chirebandi Krishibajar ani Durbal Shetkari” received the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Best Book Consolation Prize, 2021-22, given by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Studies Centre, Savitribai Phule Pune University on 21st April 2022. His book titled “Chirebandi Krishibajar ani Durbal Shetkari” has also been included in the Marathi books recommended by the Book Selection Committee out of the books published in 2019 and 2020 and received by the Maharashtra Government, Higher and Technical Education Department, Library Directorate, Mumbai.

Prof Dr Vilas Adhav is being congratulated by all strata of the society for his selection as the Director, Lifelong Learning and Extension Department, Savitribai Phule Pune University.
