Proposed Location for Pune’s International Airport Project Found to be Economically, Geographically, and Technologically Superior
Pune, 26th March 2023: During the budget session of the state assembly, Purandar MLA Sanjay Jagtap revealed the results of a study conducted by retired Indian Air Force officers which indicated that the newly proposed location for the international airport in Purandar taluka was ideal for economic, geographic, and technological reasons, and would remain so for the next 150 years.
The proposed international airport project at Purandar taluka has been put on hold for six to seven years due to concerns about its location. Jagtap urged the government to expedite the project, stating that the location study was carried out by Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale (retired), Air Traffic Controller Joshi, and Sarang Lokhande of Rafale and that the second proposed location was superior to the first in terms of economic, geographic, and technical factors.
Furthermore, Jagtap suggested that the project would stimulate development in the area, and recommended that the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) construct a logistics park near the airport. In addition, he urged the government to include the 15 villages merged with the Haveli Municipal Corporation in the Amrut drinking water scheme of Maharashtra Life Authority, as these villages lacked basic facilities such as water, drainage, roads, and electricity since being included in the municipal limits two and a half years ago.
