Pune, 11 June 2024: In a groundbreaking moment for Indian mixed martial arts, Puja Tomar, a 28-year-old athlete from Uttar Pradesh, secured her place in sports history by clinching victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Competing at UFC Louisville 2024, Tomar faced off against Brazil’s Rayanne Amanda dos Santos in a highly anticipated bout. The clash, held at strawweight, marked a pivotal moment not only for Tomar but also for Indian fighters on the global stage.

The match unfolded over three intense rounds, lasting a total of 15 minutes, showcasing the grit and determination of both competitors. Tomar’s skill and tenacity shone through as she navigated the fast-paced, grueling exchanges to ultimately emerge victorious.

Born on November 25, 1995, in Budhana, Uttar Pradesh, Tomar’s passion for martial arts ignited at a young age, propelling her to numerous victories in national and international competitions. Despite facing setbacks, such as a loss in her mixed martial arts debut against Muay Thai champion Stamp Fairtex in 2019, Tomar’s resilience and determination never wavered.

Her signing with ONE Championship in August 2017 signaled her intent to make waves in the world of mixed martial arts, laying the groundwork for her eventual triumph in the UFC.
