Pulse Polio Vaccination Underway in Pune Today; Over 3 Lakh Children to Be Covered
Pune, 12th October 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun its annual Pulse Polio Vaccination Campaign, administering polio doses to children aged zero to five across the city. The campaign, which started today, will continue until October 17, targeting more than 3 lakh children.
Vaccination booths have been set up at five PMC ward offices, 54 clinics, 19 maternity hospitals, and 65 new health promotion centers. Special arrangements have also been made for high-risk areas, including brick kilns, displaced settlements, and construction sites. A total of 1,350 booths are operational from 8 am to 5 pm to ensure children receive the vaccine.
From October 13 to 17, health teams will conduct door-to-door visits to verify that children have received their polio doses. Around 10,40,232 households will be covered in this follow-up drive. A total of 1,912 teams, led by 15 chief supervisors and 314 supervisors, are overseeing the vaccination process. The teams include vaccine controllers, public health nurses, assistant health officers, and health officers, all trained specifically for this campaign.
Special arrangements have also been made for children who are traveling. Polio vaccination teams have been stationed at bus stops, ST and metro stations, railway stations, airports, and public parks to ensure no child is missed.
Dr. Rajesh Dighe, Assistant Health Officer, PMC, said, “The campaign is in full swing. Parents are urged to take their children to the nearest polio booth and ensure they receive the vaccine. Cooperation from citizens is key to keeping Pune polio-free.”

- October 12: Polio vaccination ongoing at booths from 8 am to 5 pm
- October 13–17: Door-to-door follow-up to ensure all children have received the dose
Parents are encouraged to make sure their children are vaccinated on time and cooperate with health teams during the follow-up visits.
