Pune, 5th May 2025: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has approved a 10% increase in examination fees for SSC (Class 10) and HSC (Class 12) students for the academic year 2025-26. This move is expected to place a heavier financial burden on students and their parents.

The decision was finalized during a recent meeting of the board’s executive council, where the matter of fee revision was discussed. Following the meeting, the board approved only the hike in examination fees, while other charges—such as administrative fees, mark sheet fees, and certificate fees—remain unchanged. These additional charges, including ₹20 each for laminated mark sheets and certificates provided after the examination, will still be collected from students.

As a result of the hike, the standard examination fee will rise from ₹470 to ₹520, marking an increase of ₹50. Meanwhile, private candidates registering through Form No. 17 will now have to pay ₹1,110 as a registration fee.

The state government had previously decided to implement a cumulative 30% hike in exam fees over three years, at a rate of 10% per year. The latest increase marks the third consecutive year of fee hikes under this plan. However, the decision has sparked discontent among parents, many of whom are already grappling with rising educational expenses.
