Pune: PMPML’s “Raatrani” Bus Service Earns Rs 1 Crore In Last Financial Year; Passengers Demand More Routes

Pune, 5th May 2025: Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has launched its special late-night ‘Raatrani’ bus service on six routes to ensure affordable and safe transportation for passengers arriving in the city by train or bus during the night. The initiative has received a positive response from commuters, and PMPML recorded revenue of Rs 1 crore from this service in the past financial year.
Due to Pune’s growing prominence in education, business, employment, and tourism, the city sees a large influx of passengers from within and outside Maharashtra. Many arrive late at night via flights, state transport buses, railways, or private coaches. At such hours, passengers often fall prey to overcharging by auto-rickshaw drivers and face concerns over safety during transit.
In response, PMPML initially introduced the Raatrani service on five routes to cater to night travelers, providing a reliable and budget-friendly transport option. Based on growing demand and route assessments, a sixth route—Pune Station to Nigdi—was later added, which has proven beneficial for passengers.
With night travel on PMPML buses considered both secure and economical, commuters have begun requesting the expansion of Raatrani services to additional routes. In particular, routes connecting Pune Airport to Swargate, Pune Station to the airport, and Pune Station to Hinjawadi have been highlighted as high-demand sectors due to the volume of night-time travelers. There are also calls to reinstate two previously operated Raatrani routes: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to Kharadi and NT Wadi to Kondhwa Khurd.
Currently operational Raatrani routes include:
– Katraj to Shivajinagar Bus Stand
– Pune Station to NDA Gate 10
– Hadapsar to Swargate
– Hadapsar to Pune Station
– Nigdi to Pune Station (via Wakadewadi)
– Katraj to Pune Station
