Pune: 1006 Boxes of Foreign Liquor Bottles Worth Rs 59.6 Lakh Seized By State Excise Department

Pune, 5th June 2022: The sleuths from the Pune unit of the Maharashtra state excise department have seized 1006 boxes of foreign liquor bottles worth Rs 59.6 lakh and two container trucks. The liquor was produced in Goa and was meant to be sold in Goa only, officials said.
Acting on a tip-off, today a trap was laid in Somatne Phata and Talegaon toll plaza areas on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway. Accordingly, two container trucks were seized and the liquor bottles were seized. A total of 1006 boxes of foreign liquor bottles including McDowell’s No. 1 whiskey, Tuborg Strong beer, Ice Magic vodka, Admiral vodka and Royal Blue whiskey, were recovered.
The value of the confiscated liquor is Rs 59.6 lakh and the value of the confiscated goods along with the vehicles is Rs 87.6 lakh. A case has been registered for offences under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act and drivers Jaikisan Dhimaram Dhaka Sujanaram and Jiyaram Bishnoi, both residents of Barmer in Rajasthan have been arrested.
The action was taken under the guidance of the State Excise Department’s Divisional Deputy Commissioner (Pune Division), AB Chaskar, Superintendent (Pune) CB Rajput, Deputy Superintendent (Pimpri Chinchwad) Yuvraj Shinde.
The team included Inspector Sanjay Saraf, Sub Inspectors BS Ghuge, MR Rathod, Deepak Supe and Swati Bharne, and office staff Bhagwat Rathod, Akshay Mhetre, Rahul Jaunjal, Rasul Qadri, Chandrakant Naik, Suraj Ghule, Munkund Pote, Jairam Kachra and others.
