Lohegaon, 30th January 2024: In an incident shedding light on the consequences of imitating social media stunts, a 12-year-old boy lost his life in Yerwada. Sathyan Kumar Mahato, a seventh-standard student of an English medium school in Lohegaon, succumbed to injuries sustained in a bicycle accident while attempting a stunt, reminiscent of those popularized on social media platforms.

The incident occurred on December 1, 2023, when Sathyan Kumar, known for frequently attempting daring stunts while riding his bicycle, suffered severe head injuries in a mishap. Initially treated at a private hospital in Lohegaon, he was later transferred to Sassoon General Hospital for further care. Despite a period of recovery, tragedy struck again on January 21, 2024, when the young boy collapsed and subsequently passed away while being treated in the intensive care unit of Sassoon General Hospital.

According to fellow students at the English medium school in Lohegaon, Sathyan Kumar was known for emulating stunts he had come across on social media platforms. He often boasted to friends about his prowess, claiming to replicate manoeuvres seen on online reels. The December 1 accident left him with serious head injuries, leading doctors at the private hospital to recommend an MRI and subsequent admission to a larger medical facility.

Following this advice, his parents admitted him to a private hospital in Yerwada. After days of treatment at Sassoon General Hospital, he was discharged, resuming his regular school attendance. But on Makar Sankranti, while flying a kite, Sathyan Kumar experienced nosebleeds and collapsed. Rushed to Sassoon General Hospital by relatives, he spent a few days in the intensive care unit before succumbing to his injuries on January 21.
