Pune, 3rd September 2025: The draft ward structure for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections has triggered a wave of discontent among political aspirants and former corporators. Allegations have surfaced that the new boundaries favor the BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), leading to 1,382 objections and suggestions being submitted so far.

According to officials, as many as 785 objections were filed in a single day, underscoring the rising discontent. Interestingly, eight of the 41 wards received no objections, while certain wards drew unusually high numbers. The deadline for submitting objections and suggestions is September 4.

Ward Structure at a Glance
The PMC elections will elect 165 corporators across 41 wards. Of these, 40 wards will have four members each, while Ward No. 38 Ambegaon-Katraj will have five members. Although 34 villages were initially included in the civic body limits, Uruli Devachi and Fursungi were excluded, reducing the PMC’s overall area and leading to the creation of new wards.

The draft ward structure was announced on August 22, after which objections began pouring in. Former corporators and local leaders have raised concerns over:
Inclusion of favorable areas and exclusion of unfavorable ones.
Boundaries being drawn along small lanes instead of main roads.
Arbitrary changes that could tilt political balance in some wards.

Wards with No Objections
Eight wards did not register a single objection:
Ward 5: Kalyani Nagar – Vadgaon Sheri
Ward 10: Bavdhan – Bhusari Colony
Ward 12: Chhatrapati Shivaji Nagar – Model Colony
Ward 25: Shaniwarpeth – Mahatma Phule Mandai
Ward 29: Deccan Gymkhana – Happy Colony
Ward 30: Karvenagar – Hingne Home Colony
Ward 31: Mayur Colony – Kothrud
Ward 40: Kondhwa Budruk – Yewalewadi

Wards with Maximum Objections
Ward 3 Vimanagar – Lohgaon: 381 objections and suggestions
Ward 34 Vadgaon Budruk: 278 objections
Ward 15 Manjari Budruk – Sade Satara Nali: 224 objections

Rising Political Heat
With only two days left for submissions, political observers expect the number of objections to climb further. The State Election Commission will examine the representations before finalizing the ward boundaries.

For many aspirants, the new demarcations could make or break their electoral chances, making the battle over boundaries as intense as the election itself.
