Pashan, 28th April 2025: A 16-year-old student from Pune sustained severe head injuries when she fell out of a PMPML bus near the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) bus stop at around 7:15 am on Saturday. The incident occurred when the bus driver, according to police, abruptly accelerated and then slammed on the brakes within a few feet.

The girl, a 12th-grade student, reportedly lost consciousness after the fall and was rushed to a hospital. Police have confirmed that she is in stable condition, though the extent of her injuries remains under observation. A case has been filed against the bus driver for rash and negligent driving, and he has been suspended pending further investigation.

Sub-Inspector Shamal Patil of Chatushrungi police explained the sequence of events, saying, “The driver accelerated first and then suddenly applied the brakes. The girl was near the door but not on the steps, and there was no traffic around at the time of the incident.”

Patil further revealed that the girl was preparing to alight at the next stop, located near her college at Pashan, when the incident occurred.

Patil shared additional details about the victim, stating, “She is originally from Parner in Ahilyanagar and had come to Pune for her higher studies. She stays with her aunt in Sus and boarded the bus at a stop along the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass. The bus, a CNG-powered vehicle, operates from PMPML’s Upper Indiranagar depot and was heading from Ghotawade Phata to Market Yard.”

The bus operator, PMPML, has launched its own investigation into the matter. A senior PMPML official said, “Our team visited the location and met the girl’s family at the hospital. We are in the process of providing them with a cheque of ₹50,000 to help with her medical expenses. While the investigation continues, it is suspected that the girl may have jumped out for reasons that remain unclear.”

The official added that it was the bus driver who took the injured student to the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities look into all possible causes of the incident.
