Hadapsar, 20th April 2026: A 16-year-old student preparing for the National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance examination died by suicide at a hostel in the Handewadi area of Hadapsar, allegedly after being accused of theft and threatened with expulsion. Police have registered a case against the institute’s director, executive officer, and hostel supervisor.

The case was registered at Fursungi Police Station following a complaint filed by the boy’s father. According to police, the student, a native of Beed, was studying in Class 11 and staying at the institute’s hostel while attending NDA coaching classes.

The incident took place on November 10, 2025, when the boy was found dead in his hostel room. Initially, the police registered the case as an accidental death. However, following the father’s complaint, a formal case has now been filed against the institute authorities.

According to the complaint, another student had accused the boy of stealing Rs 3,500. Subsequently, the hostel supervisor allegedly threatened him with expulsion from the institute. Police said the boy became mentally distressed following the accusation and the alleged threat.

The father has alleged that the institute failed to inform the family in time and did not provide any counselling or support despite visible signs of distress. The complaint further states that the alleged negligence and lack of intervention by the institute contributed to the boy taking the extreme step.

Police Sub-Inspector Shambhuraj Jadhav is investigating the case, and further inquiries are underway.
