Pune: 23-Year-Old College Student Killed In Collision With Municipal Garbage Truck In Vishrantwadi; Investigation Underway

Vishrantwadi, 28th May 2025: A tragic accident in the Vishrantwadi area claimed the life of a 23-year-old college student after a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) garbage transport dumper collided with her two-wheeler. The deceased has been identified as Ekta Bharat Patel, a resident of Vidyanagar in Pimple Gurav.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (27th May) afternoon around 1:30 pm when Ekta, a student at a college in Lohgaon, was riding her two-wheeler along the road from Vishrantwadi towards Yerwada Central Jail. As she approached the vicinity near the Commerzone company, the municipal dumper struck her vehicle. The impact caused her to fall under the wheels of the truck, leading to her death on the spot.
Upon receiving information about the accident, Vishrantwadi Police arrived promptly at the scene and took the dumper driver, 38-year-old Tryambak Sherkhane of Aundh, into custody.
This incident adds to a growing list of fatal accidents involving PMC garbage dumpers. According to Police, many accidents have been attributed to the negligence of the drivers. Ekta’s body has been sent to Sassoon General Hospital for postmortem examination and further investigation is currently underway.
