Pune: 3 Persons Detained In Tathawade Gas Explosion Case Including Land Owner

Tathawade, 9th October 2023: Pimpri Chinchwad Police have detained three persons in connection with the gas explosion incident near JSPM College in Tathawade on Sunday night. Police said that the accused were involved in black marketing of propylene gas.
The accused have been identified as Mahipal Chaudhary of Punawale, Rahul Kumar Rajdevram of Thergaon, Mohammad Rashid Mohammad Naseem of Uttar Pradesh, and Chandrakant Mahadev Sapkal of Tathawade. Except Mohammad Rashid, all others have been detained.
Police Sub-Inspector Bharat Mane filed a complaint at the Wakad Police Station concerning this matter.
According to the police, Mahipal Chaudhary and Rahul Kumar Rajdevram are alleged to have unlawfully stolen propylene gas in collaboration with Mohammad Rashid, who served as the driver of a gas tanker bearing registration number GJ 16 AW 9045, operated by Tirupati Carrier. This theft was carried out with the knowledge that a significant fire and explosion could occur during the illegal gas cylinder filling. The incident took place around 11 pm in the JSPM College area.
During the gas theft operation, a fire erupted, leading to a massive explosion that caused damage to three buses of Blossom school and several other vehicles.
Chandrakant Sapkal, the owner of the premises where the incident occurred, has been regularly making his property available for such activities, DCP (Zone 2) Kakasaheb Dole said.
Police have booked the accused for offences under sections 379, 407, 285, 336, 427, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code as well as relevant sections of the Essential Commodities Act and Explosive Substances Act.
