Pune: 3,000 Kg Of Plastic Bottles Collected
Pune, 27th February 2023: The citizens of Pune responded well to the plastic waste collection competition announced by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to eliminate plastic waste. 3,248 kg of plastic bottles have been collected in the municipal offices. The Ghole road ward office is leading in the said competition. Meanwhile, due to the response to the competition, the Municipal Corporation has extended the deadline of this competition till 15th March.
To promote the collection of plastic waste in the city and to inculcate the habit of plastic waste collection in the city, Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar announced a ‘plastic waste collection competition’ on 1st February. Additional Commissioner Kunal Khemnar also announced prizes like smartphones, smartwatches, and electric bikes to the winners of this competition organized in collaboration with Cummins India.
The contestants had to collect the plastic bottles from their homes, workplaces, or other public places and deposit them at the municipal office. This competition was till 28th February, but due to a good response from the citizens, the municipal administration has extended the deadline of this competition till 15th March.
Recyclers or processors authorized by the Municipal Corporation make attractive murals, paver blocks, interlocking blocks, etc from plastic bottles collected. Materials will be made and used for city beautification or the beautification of parks, roads, and footpaths.
Asha Raut, Head of the Solid Waste Department, Municipal Corporation said, “This competition was organized to create awareness about plastic waste. Accordingly, citizens also responded well to the plastic bottle collection competition. 3,248 kg of plastic bottles has been collected.”
