Wagholi, 19th August 2025: A massive tin pavilion erected on the grounds of Jaywant Shikshan Prasarak Mandal (JSPM) in Wagholi suddenly collapsed around 4.15 pm on Tuesday. Fortunately, no one was present inside at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported.

The pavilion, spread over nearly 30,000 sq. ft. with seating capacity for about 3,000 students, had been constructed for JSPM University’s six-day induction program. Programs were held inside the pavilion until 1 pm on Monday and Tuesday. Just hours after the program concluded, the structure gave way.

As soon as news of the collapse spread, JSPM staff and personnel from Wagholi Police Station rushed to the spot. They ensured no one was trapped and began clearing the sheets and debris within 20 minutes.

Dr. Vasant Bugde, Director of JSPM Wagholi Complex, said, “At the time of collapse, there were no students inside as the program had ended at 1 pm. The incident occurred around 4.15 pm. Continuous rainfall may have weakened the soil and contributed to the collapse. Thankfully, no one was harmed.”

Senior Police Inspector Yuvraj Hande of Wagholi Police Station confirmed, “We immediately verified that no one was trapped under the sheets. Since no students were present, there was no loss of life or injuries. We ensured the pavilion was completely cleared.”

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of temporary structures during monsoon.
