Pune: 310 Trees To Be Affected In Mula River Project

Pimpri, 13th May 2023: The Mula River Improvement Project is being implemented by Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). 310 trees out of 1,000 along the river in the municipal limits will be affected in the process. However, the said trees will be replanted.

The municipality is implementing the project on one side of the Mula River. Rs 276 crores 54 lakhs will be spent for the 8.80 km distance from Wakad Bypass to Spicer College-Sangvi Bridge. This work will be started soon and the duration of the work is three years.

There are many old and rare trees and plants on the bank. All trees have been enumerated. In the tree census conducted in the year 2018, there are a total of 1,000 small and big trees of various species on this bank.

About 300 of these trees are exotic. They will be removed and indigenous trees will be planted. Also, around 310 trees that will affect the work will be removed and replanted elsewhere on the banks. The municipality is going to plant 2,700 new trees for the project.

The second phase of the Mula River project will be implemented from Sangvi to Bopkhel, a distance of 5.40 km. There is one side of the river within the municipal limits. It has an area of 2.50 km of the Army’s CME. The project is expected to cost around Rs 250 crores (PCMC).

City Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni informed that 310 trees are affected and as many trees as possible will be replanted. At the same time, indigenous trees will be planted.
