Pune: 3rd MJ Cup Invitational Hockey Tournament (Men and Women) 2023

Pune, 19th December 2023: State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) Pune was the lone qualifier for the quarterfinals in the four-match schedule of the day in the 3rd MJ Cup Invitational Hockey Tournament (Men and Women) 2023 at the Maj. Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium at the Nehrunagar-Pimpri on Tuesday.

SRPF had to work hard in a match of missed chances before host’s downing Excellency Hockey Academy by a solitary (1-0) goal. The all important goal was scored by Kishore Patil (44th) off a penalty-corner to settle the issue in a Pool-A encounter.

The other qualifiers for the last—8 include; GST Customs, Pune and Hockey Lovers Club (Pool-C) and Central Railway Club Pune (Pool-B) joined Krida Prabodhini (Pool-C) and PCMC.

The tournament being held under the aegis of Hockey Maharashtra and organized by Excellency Hockey Academy in joint association with the Dhanraj Pillay Foundation.

Pool-D, on the other hand, had Income Tax Pune put aside Railway Line Boys 3-1 to improve their chances to qualify. A penalty corner conversion by Vikram Singh (25th) and Mohammed Shakir (37th) and a field goal by Danish M 29th was enough to earn three points.

The Pool-B encounter between Mumbai Republicans and Kids XI was inconsequential with the Mumbai team winning 10-1 to log their first win in three pool encounters.

Pool-B: Mumbai Republicans: 10 (Venkyatesh Devkar 2nd, 36th, 48th, 60th; Harsh Yadav 7th, 58th; Vijay Pillay 28th, 60th; Karan Singh 38th ; Laxmikant Kawale 49th) bt Kids XI: 1 (Sahil Hire 22nd – p.c). HT: 3-1.

Women: Pool-A: Excellency Hockey Academy bt SNBP – Forfeited the Match
