A total of 40 dropouts were enrolled through Suprabhat Mahila Mandal and all of them have passed the 10th (SSC) exam recently. Suprabhat Mahila Mandal is working on Key Issues of Education & Literacy, Health & Family Welfare, Vocational Training, Women’s Development & Empowerment

Reshma Shinde (30, resident of Bibvewadi) said, “I wanted to learn a lot, but due to my home situation, my parents got me married early, and today my husband wants me to be at least 10th pass. I work as a housekeeper in my area. I made this decision because I wanted to. Still, I am concerned whether I could complete it because it’s been so many years since I left school, and I still want to fill out form 17 by doing housework and managing the kids. My daughter is in ninth standard today, And if I learn, she will learn more, and my wish will come true.”
Chhaya Kambale (38), also from Bibvewadi,
I got a call from LightHouse. I was asked if I wanted to complete my tenth. I thought about it and filled out the form regardless of age. When I asked my husband, he said, “What will you do with your education now?”. I explained that I had a dream before marriage, but I couldn’t learn due to financial constraints.
We have a joint family of 12 in the house. I have the support of my husband. But I have to study at home. Get up early at 5 in the morning. Make everyone’s meal and then get the children ready for school. My mother in law was against me studying. But when I passed with 80%, she said she was very proud of me. And that brought tears to my eyes…”

Bobby Zachariah, who is heading the project for GOYN, said, “Youth who complete education become eligible for higher courses, better jobs and salary increments, in addition to the morale boost it creates in the youth and their families. GOYN Pune is now mobilizing large number of youth into this program in partnership with city based organisations and schools.”
This was the first batch of this kind, supported by Lighthouse.
