Chikhali, 10th February 2025: A major anti-encroachment drive is underway in the Chikhali Kudalwadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad, with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) targeting approximately 5,000 establishments that were previously served notices. During this operation, the PCMC’s Fire Brigade has emerged as a crucial player, not only in ensuring safety but also in rescuing nearly 50 pet cats left behind by their owners.
Fire Officer Gautam Ingawale revealed to Punekar News that a fire vehicle is kept on standby during the demolition process to prevent potential disasters. The Fire Brigade takes several preventive measures before demolition, including securing flammable substances, disconnecting electricity supplies, and ensuring the safety of both people and animals in the area.
In a notable incident, the Fire Brigade team, led by Ingawale and Pundalik Bhutapalle, discovered around 50 caged cats in a building slated for demolition. The owners, a couple with medical complications, were not present at the time. The firefighters rescued the felines and handed them over to the PCMC’s Veterinary Department, averting what could have been a tragic outcome for the animals.
Ingawale emphasized that the Fire Brigade always checks for pets before demolition, as controlling them during the process can be challenging. This proactive approach has proven crucial in safeguarding animal lives during the ongoing encroachment removal operation.
The anti-encroachment drive in Chikhali Kudalwadi has been ongoing for several days, with the PCMC removing tons of encroachments. PCMC plans to extend this action throughout the city, signalling a comprehensive effort to address illegal structures and encroachments.
