Pune: 65 new cases today, Coronavirus COVID19 patients tally reaches 497

Pune, April 16, 2020: There was a sharp increase in Coronavirus positive patients in Pune district today with total 65 new cases. The total number of COVID19 patients has reached 497. Four patients died today.

According to Dr Bhagwan Pawar, the district health officer (DHO), there are 423 patients under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), 45 under Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and 29 under Pune rural areas. Till now 45 people have died including 43 in PMC, and one each in PCMC and Pune rural (Baramati).

Across Maharshtra there were 286 new Covid-19 cases taking the state tally to 3202. 

Deaths:
There were 7 Covid-related deaths in the state today. Out of these, 3 deaths were recorded in Mumbai and 4 in Pune.

Other details of deaths:
Out of the 7 deaths today, 5 were men and 2 women. 4 of them aged over 60 years and 3 were from the age group 40 to 60 years. 6 out of these 7 patients (86%) had high-risk co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma and heart disease. Death toll in Covid-19 patients has now gone up to 194 in the state.

Lab testing details:
Out of 56,673 laboratory samples, 52,762 were negative and 3202 have been tested positive for coronavirus until today.

Containment Plan:
As per the guidance from Government of India, cluster containment action plan is being implemented in places where clusters of patients have been found in the state. There are 297 active containment zones in the state currently. Total 5664 surveillance squads worked today across the state and surveillance of over 20.50 lakh population was done.

Other important notes:
300 patients have been discharged till date after full recovery. Currently, 71,076 people are in home quarantine and 6108 people are in institutional quarantine. Covid-related mortality in Maharashtra is higher than other states in the country. To analyze its causation, to plan measures in order to tackle this issue and to provide guidance to treating doctors at the district level, a special task force of doctors has been formed at the state level.

Therefore, a hotline is going to be available for doctors treating COVID19 patients in the state. Different days in the week have been assigned to these expert doctors. The task force has government as well as private doctors. Experts such as Dr. Zarir Udwadia, Dr. Nitin Karnik, Dr. Vasant Nagavekar, Dr. Kedar Toraskar, Dr. Om Shrivastav, Dr. Shashank Joshi and Dr. Rahul Padit are included in this task force.
