Pune: 7-Year-Old Boy Dies After Getting Trapped in Housing Society Lift on Sinhagad Road
Pune, 19th May 2026: A seven-year-old boy died after allegedly getting trapped inside a lift at a residential society in Nimbajnagar area on Sinhgad Road late on Monday night.
The deceased child has been identified as Shivansh Shailesh Dhut (7), a resident of Riddhi Siddhi Apartment, Nimbajnagar, Anand Nagar locality on Sinhagad Road.
According to preliminary information, Shivansh was playing in the society premises when he entered the lift alone. After pressing the lift buttons, the lift started moving but reportedly got stuck before reaching the second floor.
When the child did not return for a long time, residents of the society became suspicious and began searching for him. Upon discovering that the lift had malfunctioned, they immediately alerted the police and fire brigade.
Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the child from the lift. However, by the time he was brought out, he had already succumbed.
Police officials said that no technical fault had been detected in the lift during the preliminary inquiry. It has also come to light that the maintenance of the lift was being handled by the housing society.
The Pune City Police have registered an accidental death case in connection with the incident. Senior Police Inspector Vinay Patankar said further investigation is underway.
