Pune: 8 Persons Booked For Threatening Waqf Board Officer For Erecting Notice Boards On Land In Kondhwa

Kondhwa, 17th June 2022: Pune city police have booked eight persons for allegedly abusing and threatening Waqf Board’s Pune regional officer while he was putting up notice boards about ownership of land at survey number 55 in Kondhwa.

Based on a complaint from Khusro Sarfraz Khan (50), regional Waqf board officer (Pune division), an FIR has been registered against the accused at Kondhwa police station.

According to police, the incident took place around 1 pm today when Khan was putting up the ownership boards. Waqf Board owns 46 acres 4 guntha land of Alamgir Masjid Trust. However, Taneja Farmhouse owner through Sai Developer is trying to sell the land. Based on instruction from the Waqf Board, Khan gave a notice in newspaper Daily Prabhat. He was putting up board under police protection.

However, accused Salman Qazi, Shoib Qazi, Altaf Gafur Qazi, Shafiq Gafur Qazi, Rihan Rashid Qazi, Shakil Mubarak Qazi, Amzad Mubarak Qazi and other reached there and prevented the Waqf officer from putting the notice boards and threatened him of dire consequences.

Police have booked them for offences under sections 353, 352, 504, 506, 143, 147 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Social activist Salim Mulla who was also present there was also threatened by the accused. Mulla had petitioned various authorities about the encroachment on the land.

On the other hand, Colonel Vedprakash Taneja (retd) and 238 others had purchased some plots of the land from earlier trustees. Activists allege that the land cannot be sold and the trustees had forged to documents to sell the plots.

However, after enquiry Tehsildar has passed order that the land belongs to the Waqf Board.
