Pune: 8-Year-Old Girl Kidnapped For Begging, Alert Policemen Rescue Her At Pune Railway Station

Pune, 13th June 2021: An eight-year-old girl, who was kidnapped from Katraj on Friday, was rescued by alert railway protection force (RPF) staff at the Pune railway station on Saturday night. Police have arrested a man who was allegedly taking her away to force her into begging, police said.
The arrested man has been identified as Sarjarao Umaji Bansode. He will be produced before a judicial magistrate court on Monday.
As per the FIR registered with Bharati Vidyapeeth police station (Pune city police), Geeta Pawar, who sells lemon, was kidnapped from near the Katraj Dairy. After her relatives found her missing, they lodged a complaint with the police. The cops circulated her photograph to all police units in Pune and other districts.
Around 10.25 pm on Saturday, RPF Head Constable PC Sharma, Constables Anoop Kumar and Sachin Mahale who were on duty at Pune railway station found the girl with an old man on platform number three.
“As he failed to give satisfactory answer about the child, the staff brought both of them to the RPF police station. When I asked about her name she said Geeta Pawar whom the old man (Bansode) had taken away from Katraj. We handed them over to Bharati Vidyapeeth police station for further action”, said Senior Police Inspector Ashwini Kumar, in-charge of RPF police station Pune.
When contacted, Senior Police Inspector Jagannath Kalaskar, in-charge of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, told Punekar News, “Bansode is a beggar. He kidnapped the girl and was to force her into begging. However, he was caught before he could take her out of Pune. Further investigation is going on. We will produce him before the court on Monday.”
