Pune: 80% Water Found in Petrol at Pimpri-Chinchwad Petrol Pump

Pimpri Chinchwad, 18th February 2025: A disturbing case of fuel adulteration has come to light in Pimpri-Chinchwad, where Bhosale Petrol Pump in Shahunagar was found dispensing fuel contaminated with a staggering 80% water. This alarming discovery has led to multiple vehicle breakdowns shortly after refueling, sparking concerns over fuel quality and consumer safety.
Motorists who filled up at the Hindustan Petroleum-operated station reported engine malfunctions just after driving away. Some drivers, who had only purchased one or two liters of fuel, experienced sudden breakdowns. Upon further inspection, several customers drained their fuel tanks and were shocked to discover that the liquid inside was primarily water, with only a thin layer of petrol floating at the top. The contamination ratio was estimated to be around 80% water to 20% petrol.
Experts believe the contamination could have been caused by water infiltration into the underground storage tanks, potentially due to poor maintenance practices at the pump. However, authorities have not yet confirmed whether this was a result of negligence or a deliberate attempt at fuel adulteration.
Consumers, understandably outraged, have demanded immediate action, calling for a thorough investigation and strict penalties for those responsible. Local authorities are expected to inspect the fuel storage system at the station and initiate legal action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Officials are urging anyone who refueled at Bhosale Petrol Pump and experienced engine issues to report the problem. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as authorities work to resolve the matter.
