NITES Secures Postponement of Infosys Employee Assessments After Mass Layoff Concerns

Bengaluru, 18th February 2025: In a victory for IT workers, the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has successfully intervened in a case involving Infosys and mass terminations at its Mysore campus. The issue came to light when Infosys scheduled assessments for around 800 employees, with potential layoffs set for this Friday.
Following an outcry from NITES, the organization escalated the matter to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. In response, the Ministry directed the Karnataka State Labour Department to step in and investigate the situation, ensuring the protection of the affected employees.
The Ministry’s swift action, combined with the strong media support, led to a positive outcome today. Infosys announced that the assessments, originally scheduled for tomorrow, would be postponed, offering relief to many of the employees facing uncertainty.
In a statement, Advocate Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of NITES, expressed gratitude for the intervention and support. “We sincerely appreciate the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Karnataka Labour Department, and the media for their crucial role in supporting IT employees. This intervention ensures that employees will not be subjected to unjust termination without due process,” said Saluja.
While the postponement provides temporary relief, NITES remains steadfast in its commitment to fighting for fair employment practices and job security for IT professionals. The organization continues to work to ensure that no worker in the sector faces unjust layoffs.
