Pune, December 24, 2020: In a shocking incident, a four-year-old boy was given washing soda instead of sugar in a hotel in Pune. The boy had asked for sugar. But the waiter mistook washing soda as sugar and served him. The boy’s tongue was burnt in the incident and he had to be taken to hospital for treatment. The four-year-old boy had come to the hotel with his grandfather. The grandfather has lodged a complaint against the hotel owner and the waiter at the Dattawadi police station.

On Sunday evening, the grandfather had taken his two grandchildren out for a walk. They had gone to Sarasbaug garden. After playing there, the children got hungry. So at 6.30 pm, he took the children to a nearby hotel.

“While I was in the washroom, the boy asked the waiter for sugar. When I came out, my grandson was screaming in pain. I gave him water immediately. But to no avail. His tongue was red. I asked the grandson, what did you eat, he showed his hand to the jar of white powder. I took the powder in my hand and checked it. It was not sugar, it was washing soda,” the grandfather told Pune Mirror.

All clinics are closed on Sundays. So the boy was taken to a nearby hospital. His tongue was burnt. On Monday, he lodged a formal complaint at the Dattawadi police station.
