Pune: AAP Announces ‘Lock-Breaking’ Protest on May 7 Over Closure of PG-13 Playground in Bavdhan
Bavdhan, 29th April 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced a “lock-breaking protest” over the continued closure of the PG-13 public playground in Bavdhan, alleging that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has kept the ground shut despite it being under civic possession.
AAP leaders said the playground, meant for public use, has remained locked for a long period, depriving children in the area of a much-needed open space for sports and recreation.
According to the party, repeated written representations along with supporting documents were submitted to the heads of the PMC sports department, estate department and the municipal commissioner during December, January, February and March, demanding that the ground be opened for citizens. However, no concrete action has been taken so far.
The party further alleged that during follow-up meetings in March, a senior PMC official provided incorrect information to the commissioner, misleading the decision-making process. It added that the matter has remained unresolved following the transfer of the concerned commissioner.
Against this backdrop, AAP Pune has declared a “Taala Todo Andolan” (lock-breaking protest) along with local residents. The protest is scheduled to be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 4 pm at PG-13 ground on PVPIT College Road in Bavdhan.
AAP women’s wing president Aarti Karanjawane said the lack of a playground for children in the locality was a serious concern. She said when all formalities have been completed and the ground is still not opened, citizens are left with no option but to protest.
Pune city vice-president of the party Adv Krunal Ghare said documents clearly establish that possession of the land is with PMC. Despite repeated follow-ups, no action has been taken, he said, adding that misleading information given to officials has also been brought to the administration’s notice.
He said the playground should be opened immediately in the interest of children’s health and development.
