Pune: ACB Catches ASI and Woman Constable in Pimpri-Chinchwad Accepting Rs 30,000 Bribe from Lawyer
Ravet, 18th July 2025: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a woman police constable posted at Ravet Police Station were caught red-handed by the Pune unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a lawyer. The duo had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 to avoid arresting the lawyer’s client and to file a favourable chargesheet in court.
The ACB has registered a case against ASI Rakesh Palande and Police Constable Rajashree Ghode, both currently serving at Ravet Police Station. The action was initiated after a 46-year-old lawyer approached the ACB with a formal complaint.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Dayanand Gawade of the ACB, the complainant is a lawyer whose client was facing a domestic violence case registered at Ravet Police Station. Constable Ghode, who was the investigating officer in the case, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the lawyer and his client in exchange for not making an arrest and filing a favourable chargesheet.
On Thursday, the lawyer contacted the ACB to report the demand. The following day, ACB officials laid a trap and caught Constable Ghode red-handed while accepting Rs 30,000. Further investigation revealed that ASI Palande had supported and encouraged Ghode in the act.
Both officers have been arrested, and a case has been registered at Ravet Police Station under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Deputy Superintendent of Police Satish Walke from the ACB is leading the investigation.
