Pune: ACB traps Assistant Police Inspector for demanding Rs 5 lakh bribe for not arresting accused

Narayangaon, August 12, 2020: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune unit, has booked the Assistant Police Inspector in-charge of Narayangaon police station under Pune rural police for allegedly demanding Rs five lakh bribe for not arresting two accused in a case. A constable of the district special branch who acted as the middleman is also booked.

An FIR has been registered against Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Keshav Ghodepatil (38) and constable Dharmatma Karbhari Hande (37). They have been charged for offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to ACB, the complainant in the case has been arrested in a case by Narayangaon police and a chargesheet is pending against him. API Ghodepatil allegedly demanded Rs five lakh to submit the chargesheet soon in the court. He also promised not to arrest two other accused in the case. He was demanding the bribe through Hande. After the complainant approached the ACB, a trap was laid and FIR was registered yesterday after the bribe demand was confirmed.

Superintendent of Police (ACB-Pune range) Rajesh Bansode, Additional SP Sanjay Patil supervised the investigation team which included DySP Dattatraya Bhapkar, Police Inspector Sunil Bile and policemen Deepak Tilekar, Ratesh Tharkar and Saurabh Mahashabde.
